Luxor Planning Essentials

The practical details travelers ask us about before booking a Luxor package.

Best Time to Visit

The best weather for sightseeing is from November to February, when daytime temperatures are usually in the low to mid 20s°C (mid-70s°F). In summer, from June to August, it often gets hotter than 38–40°C (100°F), so tours usually start early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the hottest part of the day. March, April, and October offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

What's Typically Included

Each Luxor package comes with a private licensed Egyptologist guide, a private air-conditioned vehicle and driver, plus hotel pickup and drop-off. Entrance fees depend on your chosen itinerary. You can also request extras like a hot air balloon ride. Because every itinerary is tailored, included services might differ, so please check the package page for a full list before booking.

How Many Days Do You Need?

You can see Luxor’s main sights in two days at a relaxed pace. This includes the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, and the Karnak and Luxor Temples. If you want to visit Dendera, Abydos, or travel south to Aswan and Abu Simbel, you’ll need at least three days. Trying to see Luxor in just one day means you’ll have to choose only a few places to visit.

Good to Know

At some tombs and museums, you will need to buy a separate ticket for photography permits. In Egypt, it is common to tip guides and drivers, but it is not required. We are happy to suggest suitable amounts for your group. When you request your quote, your travel consultant can provide a full breakdown of all costs.

Luxor has more ancient Egyptian monuments than anywhere else in the world. About 3,000 years ago, it was Egypt’s capital and was known as Thebes. On the East Bank, you can visit Karnak Temple, the largest religious complex ever built, and Luxor Temple, which looks stunning when lit up at night. On the West Bank, you’ll find the Valley of the Kings, where Tutankhamun and many other pharaohs were buried, as well as Hatshepsut’s temple and the Colossi of Memnon. Because of the number and condition of its sites, Luxor is often called "the world's largest open-air museum."
